As some of you already know from a previous post my original daily cost too much to repair this go around so the search was on for a replacement. The criteria?

1. Sedan

2. Automatic (The wife has to be able to drive it comfortably, she can drive manual, my 05 Mustang GT used to be hers actually!)

3. Faster (The grand marquis did 0-60 in 8 seconds and had a quarter mile time in the 16’s so not a huge hurdle)

4. More MPG’s (not hard at all either, since the grand marquis got a calculated 20-21mpg on my 60% highway, 40% traffic / city loop to and from work).

5. Allow me to drive a week on a tank, which is roughly 360 miles.

I think I succeeded! You could watch the beginning portion for hints and a little game, but because I am not the time wasting sort skip the video to the 3:15 mark for instant gratification! I’d love to think what my fellow OPPO’s think of this new daily! Also, a little go-go at 8:46, my daughter is one of US already!

I would guess VW? My Acura gets about 30 MPG highway but more than half my commute is in SF and I only average about 23 after lights and traffic to and from work. I got 31 on our trip up the coast and I was short shifting with the paddles, the car likes to keep the rpms up too long for my taste after you come over a hill and start down the other side, it seems to be set up for engine braking in certain situations.

Good guess! This one is rated 28mpg highway 19 city though, so any time it’s not moving it’s hurting. I did get 27.x mpg calculated which was pretty awesome coming from 20-21. That alone brings back 530 bucks back in my pocket per year! And the fact I don’t have to shell out thousands at the repair shop for a few years (hopefully, fingers crossed this dub is going to treat me right, but the engine and trans combo was used for a long time so I reckon they have their crap together).

Interested to see how this goes. I couldn’t watch the full video with sound on so maybe you ad dress this . Why not the new one? It’s got very good reviews- new platform, tech, same power as Gti

There was no sound in the video? Where at? Or did you have to keep the video sound off? Anyway, the reason is a simple one. The newer one doesn’t come with a naturally aspirated VR6 anymore. And the VR6 was an engine I have always loved, especially in Europe where there were plenty of VR6 cars at the street races. To finally have one of my own? Hell yes!
And then there is the fact that I got it for thousands off a new one. Can’t beat that.

Also, the new Passat is still the B7 here in the US. So it makes no sense in that regard either.

Video was fine, I couldn’t  turn on sound or watch it fully where I was.

VR6 is a good reason, especially if they don’t make it any more.

Ah, I nearly had a heart attack! I take pride in my post production and quality control. I figured YouTube messed something up! Hahaha!

And yes, the VR6 is godlike. It’s such a nice sounding engine.

Hahaha! Well, it’s about as close as you can get to one I suppose because of the DSG , but that’s it. It no come in a manual sadly. It would be a hoot rowing your own gears with a VR6, that’s for sure! But the DSG farts make up for it slightly.
